How can I use an image once I have bought it?
With all Images you must check to see that the image has the appropriate Model or Property release if this is needed for the usage you wish to use the image for, as you are solely responsible for any legal implications of your image usage and we make no warranties as to the appropriate use of any Image (see our Terms of Use for more details).
Once these restrictions have been checked (you may need to seek professional legal advice) Royalty-free images have no limits on their use beyond those set out in our Terms of Use. Please note not all Xoodu images are Model or Property released, and Rights-Managed images are available only for use during the duration of the licence.

What does ‘Royalty-Free’ mean?
Royalty-Free is a simple form of licensing where the price is determined by file size, but can vary depending on the provider. Please note that not all Xoodu RF images are model or property released. It is your responsibility to check whether a model/property release exists and whether the usage you are using it for requires a release. Please see releases explained for more information.
- The buyer pays a one-off fee - they do not have to pay royalties to contributors on a use-by-use basis.
- The buyer will not know who else is using the image.
- The buyer should check that the image has the appropriate releases before using the image where a release is required.

-
What does ‘Rights-Managed’ mean?
Rights-Managed is a traditional form of licensing where:
- The buyer pays a licence fee each time they use the image, but another buyer can also purchase and use the image under the same licence.
- The buyer must specify, each time: intended use, media, territory and duration.
- Pricing is based on intended use, media, duration and territory. The territorial pricing will be matched to the specific country.

-
What does ‘Rights-Protected’ mean?
Also referred to as "Exclusive"licensing, this is only available for some images, and then only upon request:
- The buyer pays a licence fee each time they use the image.
- The buyer obtains exclusive use of an image under the terms of the licence: these terms may affect the use, media, territory and/or duration in which the image can by used by other buyers.
- Rights protection can be an advantage for high-profile projects such as ad campaigns and promotions.
- Pricing for this type of licence varies depending on the terms requested, but as a general rule of thumb it may cost two to three times the standard fee to secure an exclusive licence.

Licensing and releases
-
What is licensing (Royalty-Free/Rights-Managed), and how does it affect my purchase?
When you buy an image from Xoodu Images, you purchase the right to use that image in a particular way. This is called a licence. Depending on the particular image, we may offer a Royalty-Free licence, a Rights-Managed Licence and upon request, an exclusive rights option (Rights-Protected). The price of an image can be affected by the file size, the licence chosen and how the image will be used.

What is a release?
A model or property release is a written agreement between the model/property owner and the photographer whereby the model/owner gives his/her permission to the photographer to use the photographs commercially. Releases generally permit the use of the image(s) for all purposes, with exceptions for controversial, sensitive or defamatory uses. To find out more, see our release information page.
Please note that not all Xoodu images are Model or Property released. It is your responsibility to check whether a model /property release exists and whether the usage, you are using it for, requires a release.

How do I see if an image has a release?
On the image details page there is a section called "Releases" which indicates if the photographer has stated to Xoodu Images that the relevant release is available. It is your sole responsibility as a buyer to decide if the image requires a release and we cannot be help responsible for any use you make of the image regardless of its release status, please seek professional legal advice if you are unsure in any way.
Should you wish to obtain a copy of the release, please contact us and we will try to obtain the release from the relevant Contributor. Please give us up to seven working days to perform this request.
Please note that Xoodu Images gives no legal assertion that an image marked as having a model and/or a property release has these releases. Releases are held by Xoodu Images’ contributors and Xoodu Images does not verify in any way the information they attach to their images.
